Wolds Gymnasts visited Hull to compete in the higher level competition a week after the younger gymnasts did well, many at their first competition for the club.

All the girls who competed on Sunday had competed for the club before, but a number had moved up and this was their first opportunity to compete at a new harder level.

The youngest group of Under 10’s had mixed success, out on top was Olivia Smith who was third overall and won a gold on the vault.

She will now move up to level five next year, a tall order for one so young (and small!) Her team mates; Abigail Hall, Maddie Warkup and Holly Snaith all did well on the vault, but their floor scores were down a little as they had some harder moves not ready for competition yet.

The Under 12’s were split into two sections as there was a high entry.

Shannon Greenlaw narrowly missed out on a medal on the vault coming 4th; she was 8th overall, whilst Rachel Jones, Abigail Hall and Heather Jones were 12th, 13th and 14th respectively – all new at this level.

There were just two older gymnasts (over 13’s) at this level, Cerys Rees and Darcie Napier, both did well, but with back flips missing from the required criteria on the floor their score suffered. Both managed a handspring over the table vault.

Competing at level five over 13 was Rebecca Tulloch and Lauren Kirby were both nervous and up against some more experienced gymnasts at this level.

Both had flicks and walkovers on the floor and performed secure vaults.

Finally, competing with the most difficult criteria, Daisy Morgan was the champion, taking gold on the vault with a handspring full twist off and bronze on the floor, which included some superbly performed elements.

Also at level 4; Abigail Longney was 7th overall, Olivia Pawson 11th and Cerys Johnson in her first outing in the higher level - 19th.

The level six girls now are to return to training next week with some urgency as it is only three weeks to their next competition, four pieces this time.

The level five and four gymnast will next compete in full Yorkshire competitions at Halifax and York.
