Driffield Strider Alison Crellin revelled in the athletic experience of a lifetime when she represented Great Britain at the World Duathlon Championships.
Alison was among a 179-strong GB squad (aged 18-80) competing at the championships in Ottawa, Canada.
She came fourth in the 50-54 age group, a result described as “beyond my expectations.”
Alison explained: “I didn’t know if I would be completely out of my depth and make a fool of myself.
“My aim was to be in the top half of the field and first Britain in my age group; so to finish fourth behind three Americans exceeded all my goals.”
And she added: “When I put on the GB vest I felt quite emotional; I didn’t expect that.”
Alison, who works as a dentist in Driffield, was selected for the GB team after winning her age group earlier this year in a qualifying duathlon event at Clumber Park, Nottingham.
And her fourth place in Ottawa means she has automatically qualified for next year’s world championships in Spain.
The duathlon comprises of a 10k run, 40k bike ride and 5k run. Alison’s times were 45.09, 1hr. 13mins and 22.46.
