Yorkshire County Cricket Club awarded 16-year-old seamer Matthew Fisher with his Second XI Cap earlier today.

Fisher, who hails from York and has played for Sheriff Hutton Bridge in the York Senior Cricket League, is a member of the England under-19s squad and played a leading role in England’s 4-0 ODI series victory over South Africa earlier this month.

The right-armer made his senior debut for Yorkshire last June in the Yorkshire Bank 40 competition against Leicestershire at Scarborough, and at the age of 15 years and 212 days, became the youngest cricketer to play in a competitive county game.

Commenting on awarding the cap to Fisher, Yorkshire’s first team coach, Jason Gillespie, said:“Matthew (Fisher) is an outstanding talent and richly deserves his cap through his superb performances over the past year. He is a massive talent and has a huge future in the game. He wasn’t expecting it and the shock on his face when Galey (Andrew Gale, Yorkshire captain) presented it to him this morning was great to see.

“Matthew bowls with good pace, but his main attribute is his control. He is learning all the time. We look forward to working with him and developing his talent over the next few years.”
