Foston Ladies Club
For their August meeting members of the Foston Ladies Club visited the Hornsea Inshore Rescue and were treated to the 999 Fish and Chips Experience. This included meeting crew members who gave a fascinating talk on the history of HIR, their work including rescues, tour of the boats and jetski followed my teas, coffee and a delicious fish and chip supper members all thoroughly enjoyed the evening.
Hornsea Inshore Rescue was established following the withdrawal of the Coastguard boat in the 1990’s. Residents were determined to establish an independent lifeboat. After a year’s fundraising the first boat ‘Charity Venture’ was purchased. Today the organisation still relies entirely on volunteers and fundraising; they were called out 60 times last year including carrying out rescues in Hull and Paull during the flooding following the tidal surge last autumn as well as working with the schools.
A visit highly recommended by our members. Not only most informative but also a much needed fund raiser for this vital service in Hornsea. Our thanks to all the volunteers for a great evening.
