ATTRACTIONS in the Driffield area have been recognised for their contributions to the region’s tourism industry after scooping top awards.
At a gala presentation evening the Remarkable East Yorkshire Tourism Awards - affectionately know as the REYTAs - were given out in recognition of the best of the area’s tourism industry.
Finalists had been short listed from nominations, but the ultimate winners were selected after ‘mystery shopping’ and chosen by a panel of experts.
Local winners included Wold Top Brewery of Wold Newton, which received the Remarkable Fayre award; and Burton Agnes Hall, which won the Remarkable Day Out category.
Simon Cunliffe-Lister, owner of Burton Agnes Hall and Gardens, said: “I’m thrilled that we have won the ‘Remarkable Day Out’ award. The whole team at the Hall is passionate about creating a welcoming and inspiring environment for each of our visitors.
“It is wonderful that the Hall has been recognised for the gem that it is.”
And to complete the area’s achievements, Wold Top Brewery, based in Wold Newton, won the Remarkable Fayre category.
Brewery owner Gill Mellor said: “Thanks to VHEY and David Hockney, East Yorkshire’s profile has been raised significantly and we’re very proud to have won this award in such an important year for the Yorkshire Wolds.”
Janet Reuben, Chief Executive of Visit Hull and East Yorkshire, praised the quality of the 40 finalists which made for an almost impossible task for the judges.
“The quality and variety of the finalists was exceptional and reflects the strength of the tourism industry in Hull and East Yorkshire. The standard of finalists was so high that the judges had an almost impossible task in choosing the overall winners!” she said.
