Bridlington Sports Club Res 5
Driffield Star 4
The Star lads unluckily lost this week after a second half performance which deserved at least a point.
The first half was a poor showing from Star as they never really got out of the blocks as the home side dominated most of the half.
They were rewarded with four well taken goals including a thunderbolt from 30 yards giving Cheesey in goal no chance.
Star did get a couple of goals, with Chris Eyres neatly finishing and Steve Ethers scoring a close ranger header for his first Star goal.
Manager Mikey Wilmot gave a stern half-time team talk and it seemed to do the trick as Star came out a different side.
It wasn’t long before they pulled a goal back. Dan Everest fetching a long ball down before lofting over the keeper, and it just dipped under the bar for a superb goal.
Matty Spence then came on for Dom Lewis and he nearly scored with one of his first touches, sending his shot just over the bar.
The home side then scored their fifth goal, with a tame shot which Cheesey let straight through his legs.
Star continued to press and they were rewarded with a final goal. Dan Everest scoring his second of the game with another fine finish.
So its two wins and two loses for Star, so things are still looking encouraging.
Next up are Leven Reserves in the Country Cup.
Man of the match this week goes to Mike Dee for a sterling performance at the back.
Thanks to sponsor Rich and Lisa at the Star Inn and to kit sponsor Chambers Surveyors.
Little Driffield 1
South Park Rangers 3
Little Driffield fell behind in their first home game of the season when a long throw was only partially cleared and the ball fell to an away player to smash in from six yards.
Then midway through the first half the away side doubled their lead when a South Park player scored from what appeared an offside position which was harsh on the back four of Pickering, A. Watts, S. Raines and G. Watts.
Little Driffield then began to get more involved in the game with some good passes.
Beston, who was rewarded with a starting role after an impressive display last week, then came closest when he turned well on the edge of the area but the keeper made a good save into his top corner.
After a positive team talk at half time, the second half couldn’t have started any worse when the home side backed off on 50 minutes and an away player scored a 25 yard screamer into the top corner.
The midfield of M Berriman, Neal, Palmer and Bush responded by putting more pressure on South Park and this paid off on 65 minutes when Beston beat the keeper from seven yards with a good finish.
Fellow strike partner Hopper later found himself in space but his effort went over.
Little Driffield then pushed for further goals but just couldn’t find another breakthrough.
At the other end Long made a good save to maintain the score when South Park broke forward late on.
