Middleton Rovers 7
Sherburn 0
Junior Country Cup
On the back of two impressive performances in the league, Middleton went into this cup tie high on confidence and made an exceptionally quick start.
Harrison was in on goal after seven seconds and finished his chance well. A second was soon to follow as Steve Grantham found himself one-on-one with the Sherburn keeper, just after skipper Paul Denis had hit the post with a headed attempt.
It looked like it was going to be a long afternoon for the Scarborough league side as goals from Shaun Foster, Joe Jowsey, a header by Harry Bryan and a second of the game for Steve Grantham left them facing a six goal deficit at the break.
However, a mixture of Middleton complacency and Sherburn’s show of pride in the second half made sure it wasn’t going to be double figures.
Sherburn did have chances to steal the clean sheet away from Middleton but failed to do so and it was Middleton who got a seventh when Shaun Foster grabbed his second of the game.
Man of the match went to the ever energetic captain Paul Denis.
It will be a much tougher task for Middleton this week as they face top of the league East Riding Rangers at home. Middleton would like to thank Robin Hood for providing food after the match and their kit sponsor Peter Dodds Roofing (01377 455032).
Little Driffield 2
Stirling Wanderers 3
Junior Country Cup
The away side started the game the brightest but found it hard to get through a resilient Little Driffield back four.
But the opening goal did come on 35 minutes when the Stirling forward got in behind and smashed the ball low into the goal.
However it was Little Driffield that were also causing problems and were rewarded on 50 minutes when Palmer rolled back the years to burst through the middle, beating a couple of challenges then found the net with a composed finish into the bottom right hand corner of the goal.
Then on 65 minutes the home side took the lead. This time Hopper played Beston through who made it two in two games with a neat finish after beating the offside trap and racing clear.
Despite this Stirling found a way back into the game when they broke quickly from a Little Driffield attack and again the forward drilled a low effort into the goal.
Both teams pushed for a winner with great effort being put in by the Little Driffield lads.
Then on 84 minutes Beston collected the ball down the right and put in a delicious ball across the six yard box aiming for substitute Bateman sprinting in but the midfielder just couldn’t get a firm connection on the ball and the chance went agonisingly wide.
Then as it looked like going to extra time, Stirling grabbed the win.
The ball falling nicely to the Stirling striker from 18 yards who found the bottom corner to complete his hat-trick on 88 minutes.
Despite the result the home side can take plenty of positives out of the game as they return to league action at home on Saturday.

South Cave Reserves 5
Bay Horse Kilham 1
Junior Country Cup
It was time for some cup football and Kilham were given a difficult away trip to county league side South Cave.
Following last week’s disappointing defeat manager Rich Anderson called for a big improvement in the team’s attitude and performance.
Kilham started the game really brightly and could have taken the lead after a brilliant volley from Chris Strong was saved by the keeper.
South Cave were an impressive side, passing and moving the ball quickly and looking to break down both flanks whenever possible. They took the lead after beating the offside trap and placing the ball past returning keeper Jason Brookes.
Kilham then turned it on, creating three or four great chances which on another day would have seen them leading, but they only managed to score one with manager Rich ‘Silky’ Anderson finishing nicely from close range.
Bay horse finished the half the better side and were unlucky not to be ahead.
The second half was a different story. South Cave started to play and Kilham couldn’t get a hold on the ball.
The home team’s class began to show with some neat one touch passing, something Kilham will need to improve on when coming up against stronger opposition.
However this was a much improved performance and will have given the manager plenty of choices for his squad selection next week.
Kilham conceded four in the second half but they must be applauded for the attitude they showed in making a game of it for the full 90 minutes and never giving up.
Keeper Brookes even managed to save a penalty to keep the score line down.
Man of the match this week went to Dave Atkins, who was moved from his usual attacking position to partner Ross Gray in the middle of defence. He had an excellent game and didn’t look out of place.
Team: J Brookes, M Hogwood, R Gray, D.Atkins, M Friday, C Strong, E Preston, J Cattle, R Anderson, R Hill, D Goldfinkle. Subs: D Ellis, C Bowes, D Evus.
Many thanks to Club sponsor Rich Anderson Transport, Bay Horse Pub and the Kilham PFA. Report by Michael Mitchinson.

Driffield Star 11
Junior Country Cup
Star’s first game in the Junior Country Cup for a few seasons proved a success as they came away with a resounding 11-2 win.
The Star lads dominated the match from the kick off and they were 2-0 up within five minutes. Strikers Everest and Eyres scoring cracking goals.
Everest completed a first half hat-trick scoring a couple more goals, including one from the side of the area which nearly burst the net.
There were also goals for Mike Dee, who rose like a young Salmon to meet one of Steve Ethers huge throws to head home, and then Paul Kellington met a cross with a bullet header to score his first for the club.
The socre should have been a lot more but the home keeper was still in fine form, producing some top draw saves, including one flying one-handed save, turning Nathan Bell’s shot round the post.
The home side did score one goal after a mix up in the Star defence.
The second half was played in the same manner but it was a while before Star scored the seventh goal. Eyres putting pressure on a defender and he put through his own net.
Then the goals started flowing again. Everest scored a fourth, bending one past the keeper, another own goal before Steve Ethers scored a cracking long range thunderbolt.
Star were then awarded a penalty but Chris Eyres’ effort was superby saved, and thenMatty Spence’s looping effort narrowly went over.
The home side scored a second, lobbing Cheesy.
There was time for one more goal. Sub Rob Cooper went on one of his legendery runs, he passed four players before smashing a 25-yarder into the oof of the net giving the goalie no chance. This sparked a mini pitch invasion as the travelling Star Barmy Army fans went wild.
The draw for the cup now sees Star play Fulford in a home tie.
Referee’s man of the macth: Nathan Bell, for non-stop running and manager’s man of the match Danny Everest for four super goals.
Thanks to sponsor Rich and Lisa at the Star Inn, Driffield and Chambers Charted Surveyors, Star’s kit sponsor.
