Driffield Star FC 4
Northcote FC 0
Everything was set up for a great game of football as Driffield Star FC hosted Northcote FC at Allotment Lane.
The sun was shining, the wind had dropped and the pitch was in perfect condition. The only problem no referee. With a discussion between both managers the game would be played with Jason Barnes stepping up to take on the challenge of referee.
Driffield Star knew they would have to be quick out of the blocks with the Bridlington side undefeated this season. And it was the home side that were one up inside two minutes with yet again a long throw from Etherington into the away team’s six yard area and somehow the ball was in the back of the net, was it an own goal? No says Kellington who said he got a faint touch. Now Star have to listen to him go on and on about his four goals in four games.
Both teams cancelled each other out for most of the first half and chances were created at either end. The second goal would be vital and Star got it with Eyre finishing a good move off, making it 2-0 at half time.
With a two goal cushion Star were able to play some neat passing football with Spence seeing a lot of the ball on the right and whipping in some deadly crosses, leaving Northcote on the back foot and defending for long periods.
The third came from good work from Ballotelli Bell who ghosted past a few tackles to finish well and finally get him off the mark this season (the way he celebrated you would have thought he had just won the World Cup).
The fourth and final goal came from a corner that was whipped in with pace only for the defending team to clear the ball straight into the path of Etherington to head in.
Overall a good team performance, battled when needed, played good football at times and another clean sheet.
Man of the match: Etherington with a solid performance, topped of with a goal.
Captain’s man of the match: Mike Dee.

A special thanks to Jason Barnes.
North Frodingham 1
Bay Horse Kilham 2
Bay Horse made the short journey to North Frodingham to take on a team that beat them 4-2 only a few weeks ago.
Captain Michael Mitchinson was back in the team after a seven week absence through injury and youngster Stephen Naylor came in for his debut.
Both teams started with plenty of energy and the game was a good battle between two hard working teams.
Bay horse took the lead mid way through the first half when an excellent run and cross from Andrew Hornsey found Jordan Cattle in the box who in the style of Robin Van Persie looped the ball over the on coming keeper.
Frodingham managed to get themselves level just before half time when some poor defending from a corner allowed them to score with a simple header.
The second half was much better. Kilham pressed high up the pitch and kept their opponents on the back foot for must of the second half. Central defenders Ross Gray and Chris Strong had an excellent game keeping the quick and skilful strikers quiet and it was the returning Michael Mitchinson who scored the deciding goal with half an hour to play. He picked the ball up 35 yards from goal and slammed an unstoppable shot into the top corner.
The defence with the inclusion of Mark Friday and Mike Hogwood remained strong and kept the Frodingham chances to a minimum as they held on for a fantastic win.
Man of the match was a difficult choice this week, but the commanding presence of Chris Strong at the back made a huge difference to the team.
Team - J Brookes, M Hogwood, R Gray, C Strong, M Friday, D Goldfinkle, S Naylor, J Cattle, M Mitchinson, D Ellis, A Hornsey. Subs - D Atkins, D Yon, N Turley.
Many thanks to club sponsor Rich Anderson Transport, Bay Horse Pub and the Kilham PFA.
