Little Driffield 3
West Hull Amateurs Res 2
Both sides looked to take an early advantage in this tie.
Little Driffield went close to opening the scoring but M. Blair had a header cleared off the line. With D. Blair and Bush also in midfield chances were often being created.
At the other end, Long kept out a good effort on his line with a strong save to his bottom corner.
However West Hull took the lead on 35 minutes when their striker found himself free in the box and scored from six yards.
Despite this, Little Driffield were doing very little wrong so it was disappointing to find themselves two down five minutes into the second half when West Hull’s striker won a penalty and the spot kick was converted.
On 67 minutes, Pickering pulled one back when an effort from 40 yards looped in over the keeper.
This started an amazing Little Driffield comeback when on 70 minutes the home side equalised. Hopper’s strength causing the back four trouble all game was rewarded when he was bundled down in the box and M. Blair made no mistake from the spot.
Then on 76 minutes the comeback was completed. A tackle by a West Hull player diverted the ball across the 18 yard box and was met by substitute A. Watts, playing right wing, who hit the ball like a rocket straight into the top corner.
Little Driffield then had to withstand some late pressure with Long, Pickering, J. Berriman, S. Raines and G. Watts being tested to the maximum at the back and being supported superbly by S. Palmer in front of them winning key aerial battles.
Post match, supporter B. Howland praised the fighting spirit showed as he witnessed an incredible turnaround.
This much needed win lifts Little Driffield up the table and they hope to now build on this by putting a run together.

Bull & Sun (Bridlington) 1
Driffield Star 14
Driffield Star travelled to Bridlington for their first game in three weeks and it wasn’t long before they found the way to goal, a long throw from Etherington finding Chris Eyre in the box and he fired home inside the first minute.
More goals followed at regular intervals for the star boys, Eyre grabbing another and Matty Spence scoring before Stevie Etherington scored from 40 yards smashing the ball in the bottom corner. He later admitted that he only struck the ball from that distance because he couldn’t be bothered to run!
Dan Everest scored the next two; the striker grabbing his 20th goal so far of a prolific season, coolly slotting both efforts passed the helpless Bull & Sun keeper.
More chances followed for Star, Dom Lewis managing to head over when it seemed easier to score before Brown slotted the ball past the keeper to give Star an 8-0 half time lead.
The second half started as the first ended when Star won a penalty and Everest converted to seal his hat-trick.
Star began to find some good rhythm to their passing with some nice work down the left flank involving Kellington, Cooper and Spence. It was from the left that the next goal started, Brown chipping the ball forward to Everest who chested the ball down for Nathan Bell and the midfielder made no mistake scoring an absolute screamer.
Etherington and Eyre were next to score for Star, Eyre completing his hat-trick and Etherington seeing his deflected effort loop over the keeper.
Star’s back line of Kellington, Sach, Lewis and Cooper had looked untroubled all afternoon but on 70 minutes, a mix up allowed Bull & Sun to score a consolation. This goal prompted manager Wilmott to send on his secret weapon and Jonnie Bell replaced Everest up top for the final 15 minutes. There was time for Star to grab a couple more goals, Spence completing his hat-trick and Chris Eyre grabbing his fourth of the afternoon.
Driffield Star would like to acknowledge the efforts of the Bull & Sun team who kept going despite the scoreline and we wish them all the best for the remainder of the season.
Man of the match was Matty Spence for an energetic display.
