Driffield Rangers welcomed Wawne Ferry Reserves to Little Driffield looking to atone for the defeat handed to them by their opponents four weeks ago.
Manager Shaun Walker handed Steve Young his first start since September after injury with Kevin Woodcock missing, and welcomed back Damon Jenkinson and Ali Mutch who were on the bench alongside Ben Dobson and Josh MacKenzie.
Rangers were looking to get off to a good start and set the tone for the game but were very sluggish in their approach and it was the visitors who were enjoying the opening exchanges.
Wawne continued to probe at the Rangers back line and it was looking like the back three of Les Johnstone, Mark Woodcock and Rich Thompson were going to be in for a testing afternoon and they were defending far more than they would have liked so early in the game.
It was Rangers though who had the first chance of the match when Jimmy Syme found himself through on goal but he hesitated at the last minute and the chance went begging.
Rangers were struggling to keep the ball and get their passing game going, but much was to do with the hard playing surface, and that Wawne were closing down well forcing the home side into making mistakes.
Wawne were looking very comfortable on the ball and were happy to play out of defence and this was stretching Rangers all over the park without threatening Craig Baker in goal.
Despite being under the cosh it was Rangers who broke the deadlock with their first threatening attack of the game and the first time they strung some passes together. Young found Brent down the flank and his cross was nodded down by Syme to the onrushing Dave Woodcock and the skipper finished high into the net.
The goal should have given Rangers the lift they needed but it was still Wawne who were enjoying the far greater possession as Rangers were still trying to get into the game.
A big turning point in the game came moments later when Syme ran onto a flick by Brent and as he beat the defender he was brought down with a clear run on goal and the referee gave Rangers a free kick, but he didn’t show the defender a card, even though he was the last man and the free kick came to nothing.
Wawne were continuing to enjoy possession and deservingly equalised when after Baker pulled off a great save a poor clearance presented the visitors with another chance which they duly converted, despite the fact Baker could have dealt with the shot better as he parried it into the back of the net.
With few clear chances created the first half came to a close with Ranger knowing they had to lift their game if they were to get anything.
Rangers started brightly in the second half and were starting to ask questions of the Wawne backline but still their finishing was letting them down as Syme once again was off target when presented with a good goal scoring opportunity.
The home side made a change bringing on Dobson for Brent but Wawne were still looking composed on the ball despite not creating any danger but were causing Rangers to concede possession in bad areas as they looked to dominate.
Rangers though were looking the more likely team to score and they should have taken the lead but once again poor finishing let them down as first Syme blasted over and then Dobson scuffed his shot when Syme drew the keeper and squared the ball to him but he scuffed his shot and another chance went begging.
Rangers were forced into another change with 20 minutes to go when Thompson received a nasty kick to the ankle and despite trying to run it off had to be replaced by Jenkinson.
Rangers were pushing forward looking for the winning goal but despite all their efforts they were unable to convert any chances presented as the frustration grew.
Rangers made a final change with Mutch replacing the tiring Young for the final ten minutes and with minutes to go Syme burst forward but made the wrong choice of pass with Mutch free down the right and the final chance went begging with Rangers having to settle for a point in a game if they took their chances they would have one.
