The Auto 66 Club began their 2015 road race season with a two-day meeting at Cadwell Park near Louth in Lincolnshire.
For Kilham’s James Cowton it was his first competitive action on the bikes this year, and give him the opportunity to test and set-up the Danny Tomlinson Racing Honda Fireblade which he will be competing on this year.
Cowton, a Sports Person of the Year runner-up in the recent Free Press Sports Awards, will also be riding the Danny Tomlinson Racing 600 Honda and the Kawasaki er650, which the team hope will be ready for this weekend’s NEMCRC meeting at Croft.
Last Saturday’s weather at Cadwell Park was dry, but very cold.
Cowton was out in the morning getting the bikes set up during practice, but throughout the day he tried several different settings on the seating, suspension and bars.
Once racing got under way the adjustments seemed to pay off with him getting a first place on the ER650, and a first on the Honda 600, in a race which he won by seven seconds from the second-placed rider.
Cowton also picked up two seconds on the Fireblade 1000, which represented a great return on his first meeting on the bike.
Sunday was a totally different day, far warmer with the sun making an appearance.
Cowton kept up his winning ways, getting a first and second on the ER650, a first on the Honda 600, and another second place on the DTR Honda fireblade 1000.
All in all, it was a great start to the season and he will be looking to carry on his early season form at this weekend’s two-day meeting at the Croft Circuitm near Darlington.
There, he will be hoping to retain the Laird of Croft Trophy he won last year.
