Sacked TV presenter Jeremy Clarkson is facing a police probe following the fracas with a producer at a North Yorkshire hotel which led to him being dismissed by BBC bosses today (Wednesday).
The former Top Gear front man has lost his slot on the popular show after abusing a crew member when he couldn’t get steak and chips for tea as the hotel kitchen had closed.
In the last hour, North Yorkshire Police has released the following statement: “North Yorkshire Police is liaising with the BBC regarding the alleged incident in North Yorkshire involving Jeremy Clarkson.
“We have asked the BBC for the report which details the findings of their internal investigation into the matter.
“The information will be assessed appropriately and action will be taken by North Yorkshire Police where necessary.
“It would not be appropriate for North Yorkshire Police to comment further at this time.”
Lord Hall, the Director General of the BBC, decided to sack Clarkson, following the incident on March 4 which left Oisin Tymon with a swollen and bleeding lip, after considering the findings of an internal investigation.
He said he “had not taken the decision lightly” and recognised it would “divide opinion” but added that “a line had been crossed” and he couldn’t condone the incident.
It emerged that Clarkson reported himself to BBC bosses not the producer involved.
It’s not the first time Clarkson has found himself facing police action.
After a day of filming in Whitby for the current series of the show which has since been suspended he was clocked speeding by a fixed police camera on the M1 as he headed home to London.
