Driffield knew that with top of the table Tickton not having a game Pumas could go top of the league.

Driffield started brightly playing the ball about down the wings to get round the solid Beverley defence. Craig Belcher and James Cullen giving Driffield excellent width and tracking back when needed. It was a move down the right that forced a corner which was put into the mixer by Regan Dove, Beverley tried to clear the ball but deflected it into the net for an own goal 1-0.

The defence of Tom Horner, Matty Nicholson, Regan Dove and Jack Waites again had another excellent well marshalled performance stopping any attack from Beverley and with Mika Botham’s safe hands in goal Driffield looked solid

Half time came and although Driffield were on top they couldnt extend their lead and if it wasn’t for the excellent Bowman in goal for Beverley it could have been more.

The second half saw Driffield go up a gear. Owen Wilson, Laurie Mcgregor and Jack McDonald all battling hard in midfield as Beverley’s number 11 was causing them problems

Driffield needed a goal and top goal scorer Adam Naylor collected a ball slipped through by Louie Sykes which Adam made no mistake slotting it across the keeper into the corner, 2-0.

Alistair Mcgregor and Owen Wilson’s non-stop energy in midfield didn’t let Beverley settle on the ball at all and when the ball fell to James Cullen on the half way line he brilliantly took on six players in Beverley’s half then finding himself inside the area, he hit the ball across the advancing keeper to finish off a brilliant individual goal.

Beverley never gave up and threatened Driffield with some good football and got their goal from a shot from the number 11 caught Kane Wilson off guard in goal 3-1.

Driffield’s last goal came from a good run down the wing from Jack Waites who found Adam Naylor who unleashed a rocket of a shot that the keeper could only parry away and the quick thinking Louie Sykes pounced to nod the loose ball into the net 4-1.

Credit must go to Beverley for giving Driffield two good games over the last two weeks in a good spirited manner and Bowman in goal who had an excellent game, but man of the match this week went to the brilliant James Cullen who has upped his game over the last few games and played some excellent football, putting in all the hard work tracking back and getting a great goal this week to cap it off.

Driffield’s win moves them to top of the Hull Boys Drypool League and remain unbeaten this season so far. Well done boys as all of you put in 100% in this game.

Thanks to Craig and Steve (don’t forget Regan’s boots!) for their time and commitment to the team also N Naylor Builders of Langtoft and G Wilson Decorators.
