A Very British Raceday comes to Beverley Racecourse this weekend, featuring top flight racing and family entertainment.

Racing starts at 2.05pm on Saturday, and the meeting showcases high calibre racing, including the five-furlong Hilary Needler Trophy, which is worth £25,000 in prize-money, and the Brian Yeardley Trophy for two-year-old fillies.

These races are traditionally used by trainers to prepare their very best fillies for Royal Ascot, so exciting races are expected with spectators getting a sneak peek at some of the best runners who could go on to achieve great things later in the season.

There’s a Donkey Derby at 1.30pm, where professional jockeys get to ride a very different sort of animal, as well as Punch and Judy and other traditional country fair pastimes to enjoy.

Racegoers will be serenaded by the uplifting music of a jazz quartet. And, with music in the air, the finale of the day is a sing-a-long with the Dagger Lane Singers.

The official going at Beverley is good to firm, with a long-range forecast for sunshine and showers.
