Driffield Juniors have continued their consistent form in the Drax Cup – the biggest cricket competition for under 9s in the country, by securing a place in the East area finals for the fourth year in a row.

The team qualified together with Nafferton at an event involving 18 teams at Beverley CC last Friday.

Driffield have won the regional stage for the last three years but not managed to repeat success in the finals at Headingley, where the team finished fourth last year.

The two schools are among 12 who will compete for the area trophy, again at Beverley CC, on Friday 26 June. More than 550 schools across Yorkshire and Teesside are registered for the 2015 Drax Cup.

Teams play in a series of events to produce four area winners from the North, South, East and West. These teams will play the 2015 Drax Cup Finals at Headingley Cricket Ground on Friday 10 July. The Drax Cup is sponsored by Drax and organised by The Yorkshire County Cricket Club in conjunction with The Yorkshire Cricket Board, The Yorkshire Cricket Foundation and The Yorkshire Schools’ Cricket Association.
