New Wave Pop Singers and Theatre Group is a Driffield- based group of amateur performers.

The group was founded in September 2012 by Sue Waldron and Rob Mason.

Sue is the director of the group which is in the modern music genre called “Pop Theatre”.

For those who wonder what pop theatre is, well simply think of shows such as “Mama Mia” and “Dreamboats and Petticoats” to see how pop songs have been combined with a storyline to produce lively vibrant shows in this particular music genre.

Amateur Pop Theatre groups are few and far between, and Driffield can be proud that it has such a group.

Sue is the author of all of the shows. They are hugely popular. These include an autumn show and a winter pantomime.

Sue has experience in musical theatre, and the committee of a large pop singing group. She works hard behind the scenes, and as the show producer is in charge of each rehearsal.

Sue gives thanks to those who help, in particular Jenny Townend for arranging song harmonies, Jade for the scenery, Curtis as stage hand, and Jess as sound technician.

All of the shows are to raise funds for charity, and the group never take a penny for themselves.

The most recent pantomime “Mama Mia The Panto” raised more than £500 for St John’s Ambulance.

New Wave are proud to present their forthcoming show for the Mayor of Driffield this coming Saturday.

The show “Almost A High School Musical” is to be staged at the Community Centre on Saturday 26 September at 7.30pm. Admission is £5 and all funds raised are for the Mayor’s charities.

Anyone wishing to join the group in rehearsing for our winter pantomime, please come along to a rehearsal at 7.30pm any Friday evening at the Community Centre or phone Sue 07792261913.
