The War Memorial in the centre of Withernwick has been refurbished thanks to a grant of £3,389.90 from the Withernwick Community Wind Farm Fund.

Specialist local Company Everingham and Sons Limited steam cleaned and regilded the lettering. In addition a damaged pillar and the fencing surrounding the memorial garden has been repaired by the Soper Group.

Nathan Wicks, Energiekontor said: “It is vitally important that that there is a focal point in the community where the sacrifice local people have made for their country is remembered.

“Energiekontor is delighted as sponsors of the Withernwick Community Wind Farm Fund to have been able to support this initiative.”

Phil Wilson, Parish Clerk said: “Withernwick Parish Council is very grateful to Energiekontor and the fund panel for such a significant contribution to the refurbishment of this parish asset.

“He added that the balance of the money needed £2,366.83 had come from parish council reserves.”

Withernwick Parish Council and the fund would also like to acknowledge and thank Jim Wright of White Cottage

for his assistance with the project allowing the contractors to access his mains water supply.

Energiekontor, owners of the Withernwick Wind Farm, annually donate £36,900 into the Withernwick Community

Wind Farm Fund which is then used to promote charitable, educational, community, energy efficiency,

environmental and general community amenities.

Decisions on how cash is spent will be determined by a panel including representatives of Aldbrough, Ellerby, Hatfield, Mappleton, Withernwick Parish Councils, Withernwick Community Association, East Riding of Yorkshire Council and EnergieKontor.

The closing date for the next round of applications to the fund is November 30.

Applications packs can be sent by email or post and advice is available from the fund administrator.
