Motorcyclists are gearing up for a fund-raising event taking place in the centre of Driffield next month to raise money for a charity.

Jackie and Sean Stanhope, who are officers of the Goldwing Owners Club of Great Britain, will be raising money for The Meningitis Research Trust on Saturday May 7.

The Honda Goldwing motorbikes will be displayed near the Millenium Clock between 10am and 2pm.

Jackie said: “This charity has been chosen as it is very close to my heart, after my daughter suffered this life-threatening illness.

“But she was one of the lucky ones to survive and made a full recovery.”

Members will be raising money through holding a tombola and offering motorbike enthusiasts the chance to have their pictures taken with the magnificent motors.

A selection of home-made cards donated by Maureen Newiss will also be up for sale, and proceeds will go to The Meningitis Research Trust.

The bikes will then leave Driffield at 2pm with a short ride down Main Street,
before Goldwing owners head off to enjoy a free barbecue supplied by Jackie and Sean.

It comes ahead of the club’s ‘Yorkshire Wing Dings’ event, for which Driffield has been chosen to host between 150 and 200 Goldwings to ride a lap of the town.

The event takes place between Wednesday August 3 and Sunday August 7.

Jackie added: “It’s the first one we have done in a number of years and we have been given permission to ride through the town.”
