Driffield 2nds enjoyed a comfortable win at basement boys Goole Town in York Senior League Premier Division.
Johnny Anderson took six wickets as the hosts were limited to just 146 when batting first, Scott Thorpe’s 64 not out providing them with a large chunk of their total.
Rich Grice and Grant Halder both scored unbeaten half-centuries in the reply as Driffield sealed an eight-wicket victory to leave Goole looking for their first win of the campaign.
Beverley captain Anthony Spence was left disappointed on two counts in his team’s game at Easingwold.
He was left on 99 not out as his side made 261/5, with Greg Whyley, Andy Burton and Oli Grantham all getting into the 20s.
But Spence’s day got worse thanks to Stephen Piercy, who scored a huge 145 to put Easingwold just three points off the top. Helped by Mark Mierzwinski (64), the home side lost only two wickets as they reached the target.
Pickering were also on the wrong end of a heavy defeat after being dismissed for 178 by third-placed Sessay
Stuart Peirse (4-52) and Liam Carver (3-27) did the damage, although Ben Lealman managed a half-century for Pickering.
Simon Mason (93) and Mark Wilkie (41) then made life in the middle look much easier as Sessay eased to an eight-wicket win.
In Division One, Bridlington 1sts and Beverley 2nds both got off the mark with their first wins of the season.
Richard Lount top scored for Bridlington with 60 at Osbaldwick as they successfully defended a score of 164.
The hosts’ James Smith returned impressive figures of 5-11 but his team-mates could not match his efforts with the bat. Matthew Hattee’s 40 was not enough as Bridlington’s new signing Grant Hutton took 4-19 and teenager Harry Burnhill had three victims as Osbaldwick were dismissed for 101.
Matthew Saint and captain Sam Welburn took four wickets each as Beverley 2nds won their East Riding derby against Pocklington.
Pock were all out for 118, with Harry Collins making 37, but Beverley wrapped things up inside 26 overs. Harry Gamble (32) and Tom Hudson (29) easing them to a six-wicket win.
Harrogate 2nds continue to set the pace after they edged past Malton and Old Malton.
Ashley Griffin excelled with bat and ball, following up his 4-41 with a knock of 62. Batting first, Malton posted 176, which included 53 by Tom Harrison.
But man of the match Griffin, aided by 34 from Richard Burcher, ensured Harrogate are level on points at the top with Whitkirk, who crushed Sewerby 1sts.
Once again, the men from the clifftop failed to get to three figures. Scoot Cooper’s 27 the only innings of note as Mark Murphy (5-15) and Simon Webb (3-24) ripped through the line-up.
Webb compounded matters by hitting an unbeaten 47, as Sewerby could only claim one wicket while defending a measly 85.
Hornsea are hot on the heels of the front two after an outstanding batting display against Folkton and Flixton.
On home soil, they smashed 326-4 with Paul Clappison hitting 114, and sharing in a century partnership with Alastair Kirk early in the innings.
That allowed Jonathan Fisher (47), Mark Battye (57no) and Richard Medforth (39no) to attack later on.
Flixton made a good attempt with their reply. Anthony Stones and Matthew Nesfield both passing 50 but a five-wicket haul from Hornsea’s Douglas Griebenouw meant a win was out of the question, but Flixton hung on for a draw and closed on 266-8.
Carlton Towers are top of Ebor Division Two as Matthew Torn ripped Scarborough 2nds’ hopes apart.
He hit 64 as Towers posted what seemed to be a modest total of 137 all out, with Harrison Wood claiming 6-46.
Torn then turned his attentions to bowling and returned 5-21 as Scarborough were skittled for just 72.
Malton and Old Malton had a miserable afternoon, as did Pickering 2nds.
Dringhouses crushed Malton by 119 runs, with Sam Lingard (78) and Andrew Simpson (52) the backbone of their 206-8. Malton couldn’t get close and were all out for only 87.
Pickering’s bowlers were tormented by Toby Cleminson and Ben Horseman, who shared an unbrken 211-run partnership at Clifton Park for York 3rds.
York posted an unassailable 318-2, declaring two overs early, with Cleminson on 176 not out and his partner 73 not out.
Never in the running, Pickering 2nds were dismissed for 127, with Leslie Welburn offering the most resistance with 43.
