After dozens of spectacular pieces of land art brought the route of the Tour de Yorkshire to life, people are now being encouraged to vote for their favourite.
More than two million people lined the roads during this year’s Tour de Yorkshire, which saw France’s Thomas Voeckler crowned the overall winner following a spectacular sprint finish on Scarborough seafront.
However it was not just the racing that caught the eyes of spectators, as communities along the route came together to create dozens of world-class pieces of land art as part of the brand new Lining the Route competition.
Included in the entries were a welcome message in a field at Nidderdale, jerseys at Sherburn-in-Elmet and a steam train at Grosmont, a popular stop on the North York Moors Railway.
Tourism bosses at Welcome to Yorkshire have shortlisted 12 pieces of land art they feel captured the essence of the Tour de Yorkshire, and now it is down to the public to vote for their favourite.
The winner will take home the Lining the Route land art trophy.
Sir Gary Verity, Chief Executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said: “We have been absolutely blown away by the standard of land art during this year’s Tour de Yorkshire – it has been extremely difficult to select just 12. Communities have really come together to create some incredible pieces of art that brought our beautiful county to life and showcased our landmarks, talents and good humour off to the world.
“We’d like to thank everyone who has taken part, and good luck to those who have been shortlisted.”
Voting closes on Sunday and the winner will be announced on Wednesday June 1.
