In April this year the school was visited by Debbie Richards who held an assembly to the Year 7 students regarding LEPRA, the charity she represents.

LEPRA is a UK registered international charity focusing on people who find themselves trapped by disease, poverty and prejudice and they help them to improve their health, lives and livelihoods.

Their main focus is to work with people who have leprosy and their purpose is to enable children, women and men affected by neglected diseases to transform their lives and overcome poverty and prejudice.

Our students were asked to don their thinking caps and set about raising some money for the charity.

As always the students of Driffield School rose to the challenge and raised £150.50 through various sponsored activities.

On 24 May Debbie came back into school to collect the money and meet some of the students who had raised the money.

Debbie said: “It’s so nice to meet the Driffield School students and to let them know how the money they’ve raised will be used to help our work on the ground in India, Bangladesh and Mozambique where we treat, educate and rehabilitate, and through this give a voice to people living on the margins of society.

“We work regardless of caste, religion or race and our approach to community engagement delivers real change to people’s lives.

“Last year we reached more than 256,400 men, women and children directly through diagnosis, treatment and care. We reached a further 1,581,370 people through health education and events to raise awareness of diseases.

“I would like to say a big thank you to the Driffield School and Sixth Form students for their fundraising efforts to support the vital work which LEPRA does.”
