Scarborough’s last pair added some respectability to their side’s total, but couldn’t avoid defeat in their Yorkshire Premier League North game at Hull.

Alex Carrie and Richard Ngarva got together at the crease with Scarborough on the brink at 94-9, chasing an unlikely target of 186 to win.

But they added 32 and 47 respectively to get Scarborough up to 157-9 by the close of play.

Two Scarborough old boys had haunted their former club in Hull’s innings. Despite breaks for rain, which reduced the game to 34 overs per side, Chris Grey (48 not out) and Andrew Simpson (39) chipped in with useful runs and Charlie Hodgson made an unbeaten 39 in the later stages.

Hull’s total of 185-4 was always going to be out of Scarborough’s reach when overseas signing Shivil Kaushik got to work.

He collected 5-41 and Steven Sergeant took four wickets to leave the visitors in real trouble before Carrie and Ngarva’s partnership made the scoreline less embarrassing.

Driffield 1sts sensed victory over Yorkshire Academy when they had the visitors struggling at 91-5, but they were another side who found good contributions down the order.

Jordan Thompson and Edward Barnes steadied the ship, with a partnership of 93 to get the Academy side near to the winning line.

Thompson eventually departed for 80, but Barnes saw the run chase through to its conclusion, reaching his half-century on the way, as the away side won by four wickets.

Barnes had also impressed with the ball earlier in the day, removing both Driffield opening batsmen before 50s by Casey Rudd and Grant Halder got Town up to 197-7.
