Officials have delayed deciding on the make-up of next season’s Driffield League after another club withdrew following last week’s AGM.

Bridlington Sports Club Reserves will not be involved, meaning the league has 18 sides signed up.

But it is hoped to get that number up to 20 in the next few weeks.

Secretary Norman Harris said: “It would be nice to start the league with two even division of 10 teams.

“If you know anyone who is thinking about starting a team, please spread the word as we have plenty of time before the season starts to sort out any new teams.

“There must be players not getting a game of football and that’s all we are here for, to provide you with a local league to play your football in,

“I have held off doing the league allocations until later this month in case any team starts training and find they have enough players to form a second team.

“I am very disappointed that after finding five new teams, we have lost three.”

As well as Bridlington Sports Club, Mermaid United Old Boys and Bridlington Snooker Centre have dropped out.

○ Bridlington Town get their pre-season fixtures underway on Tuesday with a trip to Hall Road Rangers.

There will be a number of familiar faces in the opposition, including Town striker Jamie Reeson, who has left the Seasiders to link up with the NCEL Division One side.
