Our racing pundit Tony McCormick from www.irishbigracetrends.com and of geegeez.co.uk, the world’s largest independent horse racing website, to share his daily, each-way Double-Dutch selections.

This week Tony reviews a feast of evening racing and eye-catchers at Beverley on Monday.

It was, given the temperatures, the aptly-named Rio Rio Carnival Night on the Westwood on Monday evening with a terrific crowd was in attendance for the seven-race card.

The opening two-mile Maiden Handicap produced an exciting finish despite the low turnout. The Sir Mark Prescott-trained Monjeni looked the winner as the three-year-old passed the 11/10 fav Chestnut Storm inside the final furlong, only to get himself beaten by running very green in the closing stages, with the James Bethell-trained Hazely taking advantage to land the prize in the last 100 yards.

The Richard Fahey-trained two-year-old, The Wagon Wheel was backed as if defeat was out of the question in the second race of the night and despite being on and off the bridle, ran out a decent winner of a race that could throw up a number of future winners, notably, Ann Duffield’s Mere Brow and Street Jazz, trained by James Given.

Jockey Richard Kingscote had the first of his two winners, on the Lawrence Mullaney-trained Ziggy Lee, coming in at 12/1 with Oriental Splendour catching the eye in second, and Maureb possibly an unlucky loser in third after finding trouble in running on more than one occasion.

The enigmatic Jacbequick took the feature race of the night and was winning for the fifth time in his career as he sped away from the field in the seven-and-a-half furlong Handicap.

The five-year-olds five career wins have all come on the Westwood with three second places to boot.

Jockey Josh Doyle completed a double as City Of Night took the Yorkshire Summer Festival Handicap at 7/1, with another Ruth Carr-trained eye catcher in Faintly flying at the finish to grab second after finding trouble in running inside the final two furlongs.

The favourite, Arcane Dancer was asked to fill non-existent gaps on more than one occasion by jockey Richard Kingscote, who eventually eased his mount to finish 11th of the 13 runners, a run that can easily be forgiven.

The jockey made amends in the following Handicap over one mile two furlongs steering Monsieur Glory home to win by a length.

The final race of a superb night on the Westwood was won by Gabriel’s Hope under a smashing ride from jockey Dale Swift, producing his mount late to win for Spennymoor trainer Tracy Waggot at 14/1.

Next up at Beverley is the ‘Roll Up, Roll Up Family Raceday this coming Tuesday.

The midsummer circus-themed meeting is perfect for the whole family, with circus skills workshops, funfair rides, and exciting racing.

It’s a tremendous new family day for 2016, and the circus theme will keeping the whole family entertained.

Learn how to unicycle and juggle in circus workshops, and there will be funfair rides, candyfloss stalls, and lots more entertainment.
