Driffield started with a much changed youthful side for a fixture against their local rivals. Beverley brought an experienced side.
The first half saw Driffield spend much time camped in the opposition half. Driffield’s ball retention was excellent but the Beverley defence was difficult to break down.
After sustained pressure Walgate crashed over for an unconverted try.
Driffield were now dominant in the tight and the loose and Robinson scored an excellent try from the half way line. In need of a rest after his long sprint, Robinson was then sent to the sin bin for ten minutes rest.
Hall, Yogi, Greatham and Williams all made good ground when carrying the ball. Falkingham and De Rossi were working tirelessly in support. HT D12 – B0.
Driffield increased the pressure in the second half and started to play some very good rugby moving the ball quickly across the pitch.
Burdass and Norman were combining well at half back and Rowbottom and Saddler made inroads in midfield. Lever and Hardy made good breaks out wide.
Driffield were now scoring at will and Beverley’s woes were increased when their prop was sent to the sin bin having left his mark on most of the Driffield pack.
Driffield made a number of changes in the second half with Atkin, Norman, Parker and Hodgson all making valuable contributions.
There were some very good performances from Donkin and Norman (W), however, the man of the match was Furbank. An excellent result from a young side.
Thank you to Mr Chapman for agreeing to referee at the last minute.
