A NEW vicar has been appointed for Driffield.

On Sunday December 18 it was announced in church that the Rev Andrew Ison is to be the new vicar of All Saints’ Driffield with St Mary’s Little Driffield.

He replaces the Rev Mike Smith, who left the town in 2010 for the Anglican Church of All Saints’ in Tenerife after serving the town for more than a decade.

Mr Ison will also become Vicar of and St Peter’s Langtoft with Foxholes, St Nicholas Butterwick, Cottam and All Saints’ Thwing.

This is a new grouping of parishes to be held by a single vicar. Mr Ison will live in Driffield.

He is currently Anglican chaplain of St James Voorschoten in the Netherlands.

Mr Ison and his family will take up residence in Driffield shortly before Easter and he will be instituted into his new post on April 16.

Rev Carole Aconley, Self Supporting Minister serving in the Langtoft parishes said: “We are very much looking forward to welcoming Andrew and his family to our villages and to working in partnership with him.”

Peter Reed, a churchwarden at All Saints’ Driffield said: “After being without a vicar since July 2010, we in the two Driffield parishes are looking forward with great excitement to beginning a new chapter in the life of the church in our community”.

In a message to the churches the Rev Andrew Ison said: “Andrew, Julie, Emma and Clare are very happy at the thought of becoming part of your community.

“We are praying for you and we trust that you will be praying for us as we embark on this new journey together”.
