A WELL stocked jewellery section is set to be the highlight of a pre Christmas auction sale in Driffield next Friday, November 30.
The sale contains nearly 550 lots and for the festive shopper with deeper pockets the jewellery section could provide a gift worth up to £7,500 from an excellent selection of rings, necklaces, bracelets, earrings, pendants and brooches starting from as little as £30.
For those with investment more in mind there is a quantity of gold coins and a selection of both pocket and wristwatches.
There are 18 lots of old metalware including fire kerbs, mortars, candlesticks, tobacco boxes and a Victorian East Riding of Yorkshire weights and measures brass yardstick estimated at £40 to £60. Miscellaneous items contains a pair of chub fish in a glazed case at £600 to £800 and a selection of native hardwood carvings including a Maori taiaha club at £400 to £500.
The highlights of the ceramic sections are inevitably from the Far East, with a 19th Century Cantonese garden seat expected to realise £1200 to £1800. There is an excellent selection of 19th Century blue and white transfer printed ware and a further consignment of lots from an extensive local collection of Wileman, Foley and Shelley wares.
More than 30 lots of glass covers the 18th to 20th Century period with an excellent Georgian air twist drinking goblet at £150 to £200 leading the way.
The Objets D’Art section contains the lot with the highest estimate in the auction – a bronze figure of a “Man Standing” by Dame Elisabeth Frink at £14000 to £16000. Other items in this section are predominately carved ivory, bone and whales teeth including a Japanese figure of a spiny lobster at £300 to £400.
A small clocks section of eight lots leads into an excellent selection of furniture with 79 lots of 17th Century and later woodenware.
