A day hospital received two blood pumps donated by individuals with a strong connection to the community facility.
The transfusion and infusion pumps were accepted by the Alfred Bean Day Hospital, Bridlington Road, Driffield.
Sister Karan Colley, Humber NHS Foundation Trust was delighted to accept the equipment and said: “The pumps facilitate accurate and timely transfusions or infusions of prescribed medication or blood at a defined rate in a safe and effective manner. They help control flow and enable the patient to see how much has been infused and how much is left to go.”
Hospital volunteer, Anne Beal raised funds to purchase one of the pumps by organising a carol service at Christmas. In total this raised £1,400.
The other pump was purchased using funds donated by the family of the late Fred Robson, a former patient of the hospital.
Jane Fenwick, Chairman, Humber NHS Foundation Trust said: “Anne organises a carol service every year in aid of the Macmillan Day Unit and we are truly grateful for her support and commitment.
“It is also heartwarming to hear of friends and families of patients of the hospital donating equipment in their memory. We can’t thank them enough.”
The day hospital located at the Alfred Bean Hospital enables patients to choose to receive treatments closer to home as a day case and reduces the need for admission to an acute hospital.
The day hospital undertakes blood transfusions and IV infusions on a Tuesday and Friday weekly.
