A request to build four wind turbines at a site near Rotsea has been submitted to East Riding Council.
Renewable energy company, Renewable Energy Systems (RES) submitted the scoping request to the council and is awaiting a response before submitting its formal planning application.
The site for the turbines lies south of Skerne and 3km to the east of Hutton Cranswick.
Previously a 10 turbine wind farm near Skerne was considered by RES following initial site investigation and public exhibitions in 2005, but was met by opposition from the Wolds Wind Farm Opposition Group, set up to voice residents’ concern.
A spokesperson for RES said: “In particular RES is seeking to minimise the visual impact of the scheme whilst still producing sufficient renewable energy to make a valuable contribution towards security of energy supply for the UK.”
Following a response from the council RES has said it will consult local communities to explain the proposal, with a view to submitting an application later this year.
A spokesman for the Wolds Wind Farm Opposition Group explained the group have in recent times been inactive following the previous RES application to build 10 turbines near Skerne.
He said: “I would hope the group would get back together and fight it again.
“When you look across the horizon all you can see is wind turbines spinning round. The default position is to oppose them because at the end of the day the more turbines they get in there the more money they can bank. They do not care about the countryside here.”
The request is to be discussed at a meeting of Hutton Parish Council on Friday 12 April, starting at 7pm in the WI Hall, Main Street, Hutton Cranswick. For a report of the council meeting see next week’s Times & Post.
