Stirling Wanderers Res 1

Little Driffield 3

Little Driffield opened the scoring on 25 minutes in this clash when M. Raines battled through a couple of challenges before Berriman collected the ball to score from close range.

This lead was certainly coming after Hilmi produced a good save from the keeper with his effort heading into the bottom corner moments earlier.

On 33 minutes the lead was doubled when one of Pickering’s precision corners resulted in an own goal after good pressure from Whatling.

The home side looked to split the Little Driffield defence open with their pace but the experience of Neal and Watts at centre back restricted the home side’s chances.

However it was game on after 58 minutes when following a debateable free kick the home side scored. A looping free kick wasn’t dealt with and a home player scored.

Wanderers came close to scoring again but a spectacular fingertip save from the Little Driffield keeper kept them ahead.

But Little Driffield responded immediately when Pickering again turned provided and picked out captain Berriman at the front post, who headed home powerfully.

On 80 minutes the home side had a goal correctly ruled out for offside and at the other end Whatling was continuing to be a menace causing the home side all sorts of problems.

Brid Snooker Centre 3

Little Driffield 2

The start of the midweek matches saw Little Driffield take on a very strong Snooker Centre side but the visitors took the lead on 20 minutes when M. Blair played in Whatling who finished emphatically into the bottom corner.

This lead should have been doubled by Palmer from six yards with the keeper saving but the rebound was scored by M. Blair in an offside position.

The hosts equalised minutes before half time following an own goal after the away defence sat too deep allowing a dangerous cross to be played across goal.

Into the second half Ford came close with an effort from 25 yards after beating two defenders. This was later followed by M. Blair lobbing the ball over the bar with just the keeper to beat.

Snooker Centre then took the lead but this wasn’t held for long as M. Blair raced through on goal and coolly placed the ball into the bottom corner after a good break from a home corner.

Both sides pushed for the winner with end-to-end entertaining football. Deverson had two efforts cleared off the line and then right at the death the ball fell to Ford but the midfielder just couldn’t stretch far enough with the goal only yards away.

In the end this game could have gone either way but Little Driffield were just glad to end a losing run and hope to build on this performance in their next match. Find out how Little Driffield got on above

Driffield Star FC 2

Pocklington 4ths 2

Pock won 5-4 on pens

Driffield Star crashed out of the Arthur Sanderson trophy at the first hurdle after a penalty shoot out defeat to lower league opposition.

The game started off brightly with both teams playing good football but it was the visitors who took a shock lead with the striker firing past Gary Gladstone in goal.

Midway through the half Star were back on level terms when Matty Spence scored his seventh goal in four games with a well executed finish. Moments in to the second half Star were in front when a Matty Spence shot deflected off a defender and wrong footed the goalie. It looked like the win would be Star’s but the hard working visitors found an equaliser with a good finish to send the game to a shoot out. Star’s Rich Hill, Chris Morley, Lee Jackson and Danny Everest all scored their penalties and Pock blasted one over the crossbar to leave it at 4 - 3, Pock then converted their 5th and Carl Endeacott missed for Star to send it to sudden death. Pocklington scored and then Matty Spence’s effort was saved to send the Star lads out of the cup 5 - 4 on penalties. Man of the match for Star was Richard Hill for a hardworking display (Don Bemrose Quarter Final).

Sports Club United 2

At the weekend Star hosted their second cup game of the week when they hosted Sports Club Ltd who had beaten Star twice already this season. Star took an early lead after intricate passing between Dan Everest and Chav set up Grant Aitken to fire home. Star continued to batter the visitors with no more goals and against the run of play the visitors scored an undeserved equaliser.

The second half saw both teams going for it. Matty Spence had a goal ruled out for a non-existant handball and this seemed to be the game changing decision as the visitors took the lead with 10 minutes left. However with five minutes left Rich Foley set up Rich Hill who unleashed a thunderbolt which nearly burst the net. With the game destined for extra time Star won a corner in the last seconds of the game. Nathan Bell swung the corner in and up rose Chris Morley to power a header home to send Star into their first ever cup semi-final where Brid Excelsiors await after a 3-2 win.

Well done to all the Star lads for a truly magnificent performance, never giving up and fully deserving the win.

Man of the match Andy Batty for a hardworking display.
