Man in court for driving over limit

A man drove while over twice the legal alcohol limit.

Leigh Carpenter, 28, of Skerne Road, Driffield admitted to driving with 263 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of urine - the legal limit is 107ml in 100ml of urine.

Sally Robinson, prosecution solicitor at Bridlington Magistrates Court on Wednesday 10 April, said Carpenter failed a roadside breath test.

Miss Schofield, mitigating, said: “He has previously had a career in the army serving two tours in Iraq. He has been suffering from post traumatic stress disorder and also agoraphobia. He doesn’t usually leave the house unless he has been drinking. He has been engaging with combat stress but he has been using alcohol as a way to cope.”

Susan Akrill, presiding magistrate disqualified Carpenter from driving for 20 months and fined him £124 with a £20 victim surcharge and £85 court costs.
