Humberside Police and Crime Commissioner Matthew Grove has announced the launch of his ‘Commissioner’s Crime Reduction Fund’ which looks to provide community projects over the next four years from £1.5m of funding.

Local groups across East Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire will be able to submit bids for projects to aid crime reduction and to fulfil the aims in his Police and Crime Plan.

Mr Grove said: “There is a perception that Police and Crime Commissioners have been an extra cost to the taxpayer, but the fact is I replaced the much more expensive Police Authority and will put back public money where it belongs, in communities.”

The money has been made available through savings the Commissioner has made since he started his role in 2012, and from the funding from the sale of his old office, Pacific Exchange, to Hull City Council.

Mr Grove added: “I have also made significant savings in the running costs of the office, and I have set money aside and allocated a permanent annual budget to create the Commissioner’s Crime Reduction Fund.”

Funds will be split between capital and revenue projects. Full details of how groups can apply for funding, can be found on www.humberside-pcc.gov.uk.
