Driffield Cluster Rounders Tournament
Seven teams competed for the new rounders trophy in a contest at Driffield Senior School on Wednesday. Sports leaders from the secondary school umpired the games.
There were two sections each playing a round robin and then the top two teams played in the final for the cup.
In the first section Kilham’s team one beat Driffield Junior school’s first team, but then narrowly lost to Brandsburton and Nafferton, both by just half a rounder.
Driffield Junior narrowly beat Nafferton after losing to Kilham and then lost to Brandsburton.
Nafferton won their first against Bransburton, were just beaten by Driffield’s firsts, before beating Kilham in their final game.
Brandsburton lost to Nafferton, before beating Driffield Juniors and Kilham.
This meant Nafferton and Brandsburton both had four points each, so the finalists were decide by rounders difference. – Nafferton went through with +4.
In the other section Kilham beat Cranswick, but lost to Driffield Junior two.
Cranswick lost to Kilham, but then beat Driffield Junior 2two.
Driffield Junior two lost to Cranswick, but won against Kilham.
This meant that all three teams had won one lost one and again the finalist was decided on the rounders difference. Driffield Junior seconds came out on top with +2.
In the final a very close fought contest was finally decided by a single rounder. Driffield Junior seconds coming out on top with 5 and a half rounders against Nafferton’s 4 and a half.
