Middleton Rovers 4

Orchard Park 3

County League Division Two

With the return of a full strength squad for manager Craig Penny to select from, Middleton had no excuses but to gain their first points of the season and get their season up and running.

The home side made a promising start and were in front after new striker Shaun Foster slotted home after a headed assist by wide man Steve Harrison.

The Hull side quickly responded in fine fashion though; a delicate flick from the left winger found a striker who poached home.

It was a very honest affair from two hard working sides but Middleton went 2-1 up after skipper Paul Denis headed home a long throw by Shaun Foster.

They were again pegged back however, after Harry Bryan lost his man on a set piece allowing Orchard Park to head in from close range.

After the break Middleton started sluggish and the defence was undone by a long through ball which was finely slotted away by the Orchard Park talisman.

Middleton showed real character to come from behind and win the match. The equaliser came as a result of great work by Matty Jowsey down the right. Steve Grantham ran at the Orchard defence before putting the ball on a plate for Shaun Foster to grab his second of the game.

The winner completed a perfect hat-trick for Foster who headed home a Joe Jowsey cross and secured all three invaluable points for Middleton.

Man of the Mach went to Rich ‘Phez’ Partridge who had a very solid game at right back.

Middleton would like to thank Robin Hood for providing food after the match and their kit sponsor Peter Dodds Roofing (01377 455032).

The Star lads returned to winning ways at the weekend with a convincing performances against the Nafferton All Stars.

The first 10 minutes were a bit sloppy from both sides but Star gradually started to boss the games and the goals started to come.

Striker Dan Everest scored two cracking goals and then Steve Etherington’s long throws caused havoc in the box setting up two more goals for Chris Eyres and Mikey Dee, both scoring at the far post.

The home side should have scored at least twice but fine defending from Hornby, Cooper, Dee, poor finishing and a couple of point-blank saves from Cheesey kept them out.

Matthew Hunten scored another just before half time, a free kick from 30 yards sailing over the wall and dipping under the bar for a fine goal.

The second half started with the home side playing the better football and they eventually scored a consolation goals, giving Cheesey no chance in goal.

This only spurred Star on though, and they started scoring freely. Star strikers Eyres and Everest bagging all six goals between them, with the latter ending with five and Eyres four.

Both lads scoring superb goals with the Star lads slick passing tearing the home side apart.

Man of the match went to Steve Etherington, for a fine performance in centre midfield.

Thanks to sponsors Rich and Lisa at the Star Inn and team kit sponsor Chambers Surveyors.
