Flush from last week’s cup success, Driffield Pumas came back down to earth with a bang in their latest league game away to Tickton Bulldogs.

Tickton started strongly, immediately putting the Pumas under pressure and a good cross was headed firmly into the net to give the home side the initial advantage.

However, the Pumas settled and worked their way back into the game when Walker ran onto a pass to slot the ball past the advancing goalkeeper to equalise.

Some fine passing and team play was displayed as an attack involving Young, Howland and Purdy saw a good shot from Walker well saved by the goalkeeper. Walker saw another shot well saved before a long shot from Tickton loped over Langton to give the home side the lead again, this time against the run of play.

Driffield were quickly back in it when Purdy passed to Howland who put a great ball through to Walker to finish and equalise.

As Tickton fought back the Driffield defence of Oakley, Gray and Young were holding firm with Langton controlling his area well and Oakley making some incisive blocks. Pettinger made a solid tackle in midfield and a run and great through ball was coolly finished by Walker to complete a fine first half hat-trick.

Kirven was brought on and quickly involved as Tickton came back strongly. The Driffield defence held firm with strong work by Oakley and Gray and a goal-line clearance from Young. Tickton hit the post and Langton made a fine save to preserve the slender lead and give the Pumas the half-time advantage.

Tickton made some substitutions and came out for the second half a different team.

They quickly equalised and then forced a superb point blank save from Bolton who had replaced Langton in the Pumas goal.

Pettinger, Kirven, Woodmansey and Magin were fighting hard to maintain control of midfield, but Tickton were in the ascendency and, despite another fine save from Bolton, headed home the resultant corner to take the lead.

A further strong shot from outside the box increased Tickton’s lead and finally knocked the stuffing out of Driffield.

Tickton were rewarded for a fine second half performance with a further three goals in the last five minutes to come out worthy winners.

Man of the match for the Pumas was Josh Walker with his fine first half hat-trick.

On a perfect day for football, the Paul Berriman Windows sponsored Tigers were first out of the blocks and at the Lions from kick off.

As the game got underway, Tigers midfielder Hartley was in the thick of the action, winning tackles and giving Lambert chance to push on and attack the Lions with his direct run in.

With a few early chances it wasn’t long before he got on the score sheet with a long range effort and soon one goal became two as Lambert got his second after a fine run. The second half began in a similar fashion as the Lions struggled to contain the constant Tiger attacks, and any Lions counter attacks were soon cancelled out by the towering Webster in defence, giving Gray in goal very little to do.

Overfield came on and stamped his authority on the game, causing the Lions all sorts of problems and scoring two well taken goals after some great teamwork.

Margerrison was also involved in some good link up play with Overfield resulting in another fine Tigers goal by Margerrison.

Lions kept going but it wasn’t long before Higginbottom started to move forward, getting into the open spaces left by the Lions defence. The tricky Harrison played a neat ball through for Higginbottom to finish superbly with his first goal of the season and the Tigers finishing as worthy winners.

The second games started pretty much as the first with the Tigers pressing and pushing for an early lead, penning the Lions in their own half for most of the first half.

It wasn’t long before Harrison was on the end of another fine Tigers move neatly tucking the ball under the Lions keeper for the first goal.

The floodgates were then open and Lambert getting on the score sheet again with a smart finish. A Lions defender gave away a free kick just inside their half. Lambert took a superb free kick, finding the top corner with a well executed shot, almost from the half way line - a contender for goal of the season.

The young Tigers didn’t stop there, hungry for more goals, Hartley’s hard work was rewarded with his first goals of the season. A fine solo effort, and the second a superb move involving the whole of the team.

The Tigers pressed on, with Overfield scoring another pair of fine goals. After another whole team effort, the Tigers won a corner - which Lambert coolly put away directly from the corner kick.

On the odd occasion that the Lions managed to get out of their own half, Webster and Massey cleared their lines well in defence, and when Lions did break through and attack, Gray was called into action, putting his body on the line, making a fantastic double save to deny the Lions any consolation.

In the last minute, anther great move saw Higginbottom score for the second match in a row with a good finish (well done Higgy)

All in all two fine, solid performances from the Tigers in their first season together.

Thanks for the support, see you this week when the Tigers travel to Sproatley.

A special thank you to Paul Berriman Windows for kindly sponsoring the Tigers.
