Bridlington Spa is a wonderful venue for all sorts of entertainment - dancing, theatre, musicals, comedy, even sport.

But it is when it hosts a rock gig that the Royal Hall comes alive and the atmosphere crackles.

Almost 4,000 fans can pack into the hall to see chart-topping bands and leave with ringing in their ears and smiles on their faces.

In recent years, Kasabian, Jack White, Oasis, The xx, The Prodigy and The Script have takento the stage in Bridlington.

This month sees Peter Andre, Jake Bugg and John Newman scheduled to stop off as part of their nationwide tours.

And this week, the Spa announced British music icon Bryan Ferry will be performing there next May.

Each year, the venue also hosts the Yorkshire International Business Convention and has welcomed speakers including John Cleese, Mary Portas and Kevin Keegan.

October also sees the annual scooter rally weekend, while the ever popular pantomime this year is Sleeping Beauty, starring TV chef Rustie Lee.

West End musical Avenue Q stops off in November.

The Spa is a much loved and cherished landmark building in Bridlington having graced the seafront for the duration of the 20th century. The theatre was rebuilt in 1907 after a fire destroyed the original 1896 building. The Royal Hall was first built in 1926, replacing an earlier cast-iron and glass structure and then rebuilt in 1932 following extensive fire damage.

By 2005 it was obvious that the general condition of the buildings had gradually deteriorated to the point where East Riding of Yorkshire Council had to take a bold decision to undertake a full and thorough refurbishment of the entire Spa facility to ensure that it would be fit for the demands of a changing market in the 21st century.

The classic 1930s Royal Hall ballroom and Edwardian theatre were retained whilst state-of-the-art technology and new modern facilities have been added to give them a 21st century edge.
