A funeral service was held at the East Riding Crematorium on Wednesday, 4 May, for Mr Kenneth Howard Hartford of Southlands Residential Home, Cranswick (formerly of Beverley) who died in the Hull Royal Infirmary on 18 April. He was aged 89 years.
The service was conducted by the Rev Robert Amos and the organist was Mr Steven Westaway.
Ken was born in Hammersmith on 25 April, 1926. He was one of eight boys. He was in the Army in the Service Corps and served in India and the Far East, he also did secretarial work for Lord Mountbatten.
After the war Ken went to work for NCH at Highbury Head Office as an administrator and fundraiser. Whilst working there he met his wife to be Norah Kirby and they married on the 4
April, 1953. They went on to have two daughters Frances and Kate.
Ken had many jobs and could turn his hand to most things.
They moved to live in Langtoft.
Ken was a keen cricket supporter and enjoyed going to the Scarborough cricket festival, he enjoyed listening to classical radio and always took an interest in current affairs and politics, he wrote stories and poetry, loved nature and walking and he was a member of the Driffield Amateur Dramatics. He was a knowledgeable and well read man and took a degree in later years.
He had a great sense of humour, he was fiercely independent and was loyal and generous.
He will be greatly missed.
