On 15 July this team of intrepid Sixth Formers, two members of staff and a professional Expedition Leader will head off on the adventure of a lifetime to spend 12 days trekking in Nepal and then a week working on a community project.

The students are taking part in a World Challenge expedition which has been nearly two years in the planning and has seen them raise funds for the trip and undertake various training weekends in order to build up their fitness and skills.

Trip leader and deputy head of Art & Design Technology at Driffield School, Miss Rosie Bramley, said: “Whilst in Nepal we will trek for up to six hours every day, navigating our way along trails with local guides.

“In our day sacks we will carry all the food, water and clothing we need, plus any group kit that the Expedition Leader has asked us to bring, while the Nepali porters carry the rest of our kit.

“Each night we will camp in the beautiful wilderness or a traditional local teahouse. Along the way we will have the chance to experience a great blend of culture and breath-taking scenery.”

“The community project part of the trip will take place in a school in the Pokhara region, where we will be helping to rebuild and renovate buildings damaged by the Nepal earthquake in April 2015.

“The aim of the project we will be involved in is to improve the quality of the building so they can hopefully withstand any future earthquakes.

“The excitement among the group is really rising now with only a few weeks to go.

“We really are going to have an unforgettable experience.”
