On a very warm evening the Year 9 football team from Driffield travelled to Blackburn Welfare, Brough, to play against a strong Snaith School team in the East Riding Year 9 Football Final.

The game kicked-off late due to a refereeing mix up, but this didn’t stop the boys from starting the game well with some slick passing and good movement on a very bumpy surface.

Unfortunately, due to slack marking, they found themselves one down after 15 minutes.

This only stirred the boys further and through some fine passing movements and excellent movement this resulted in an excellent finish from Harvey Dixon for the equaliser.

They then pushed further on and a second goal was a fantastic finish from Adam Young into the bottom right hand corner after a jinking run to leave them 2-1 up at half time.

They started the second half very slowly and unfortunately soon found themselves 3-2 down once again through some poor marking in the box and some fine finishing from Snaith.

This once again caused the boys to wake up and some excellent endeavour, especially down the wings from Cuthbert and Dixon, resulted in an equaliser from Josh Harrison.

Pushing on the team managed to add to their goal tally with a well-deserved goal from Sam Dixon from a corner and another fine finish from Josh Harrison.

The score was then 5-3, but unfortunately Snaith scored again and took it back to 5-4.

This lead to a nervous last few minutes for the boys but they held on for a thoroughly well-deserved victory.
