A funeral service was held at All Saints’ Parish Church, Driffield on Monday, 27 June, for Mrs Amy Elizabeth Hutchings of Driffield who died on 18 June. She was aged 85 years.

The service was conducted by the Rev Jacki Tonkin and the organist was Mr Martin Salter.

Amy was born in Driffield on 25 February, 1931 to Benjamin and Elsie Watson and grew up with her beloved brothers and sisters. Amy attended the Church of England School in Driffield.

After leaving school she worked in a cafe before going to Whites Sugar Mills. She worked her way up to supervisor in the department where they made jelly fruits and assorted confectionary.

Amy married Bruce in 1970 and welcomed their only child a daughter Elizabeth in 1975.

Amy delighted in her role as a mum and homemaker, she loved cooking and baking, her meals were always home made and ready on the table. She loved knitting and could easily knit up a school jumper in a night.

Amy loved her garden and was always joined by the birds she loved. Amy always enjoyed her fish and chips with extra scraps from Stuarts of Driffield and usually ate them with her daughter’s parrot sat on her head.

Holidays were always local with trips to the coast being her favourite

The family unit was strong and at family gatherings everyone was treated to Amys famous Yorkshire puddings and apple and bramble pies. Amy enjoyed listening to the radio and reading the newspapers, when going into town she always met people to talk and laugh with.

Amy fought illness for over ten years, and kept bouncing back to prove to everyone she wasn’t going to give up. Amy always gave everything and never asked for anything in return.

She was an incredible lady and will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.
