Bike lights are a must

HUMBERSIDE Police has appealed to parents to make sure their children stay safe while out and about on their bikes this winter.

Officers are warning parents to ensure their children are not out cycling on the roads without bike lights.

Humberside Police’s Chris Webster said: “It is an offence to ride a bike without lights during hours of darkness.

“We implore parents to check their child’s bikes as we will be proactively stopping youngsters on bikes with no lights and subsequently parents will receive a knock on the door.”

Police have also warned parents to be careful if large items such as bikes are being given as presents this Christmas.

In advice issued this week, the force has reminded residents to ensure sheds and outbuildings are secure if they are being used to store larger gifts.

It is also advised that insurance details are checked to ensure you are covered for the value of the goods in your home and that frame numbers from new bikes and serial numbers from electrical equipment are made a note of.
