Burglary a priority for police

DEALING with burglary offences became a priority for police in Driffield during October, a report has revealed.

Eight offences were reported during the month.

A flat in Washington Street was entered and electrical equipment was stolen, two containers on Kelleythorpe were broken into - one on the waste recycling site when scrap metal was stolen and a second on the industrial estate when eight cases of tuna were taken.

An insecure house on Riverside Close was entered and a wallet and passport were stolen, and garages on Easingwood Way, Cawthorne Close, Church Street and Mill Falls were broken into. Good quality cycles were taken from each site.

Two males were charged with burglary following incidents on Lockwood Street, Market Place and Etherington Lane.

The town council was told that during October, the police received five reports of criminal damage - a male was cautioned for damage following an incident on North Street, a man was charged following a parking dispute in the town centre, paint was thrown over a garden shed on Church Street, paint was thrown over a house on King Street and two suspects have been interviewed after a glass window at a commercial garage was smashed.

The month also saw eight calls for service to the police in relation to anti social behaviour - noisy youths were reported in St Margaret’s Play park, a report was received of cars racing around the cattle market car park, and reports were received of youths playing football in Riverside close,

Police also dealt with youths causing nuisance in Lidl car park and a group of noisy youths in the park off Southfield Close. There was also a report of a group of youths knocking bins over at Riverhead and swearing.
