Fourteen-year-old Mia Syrett, who was the youngest person to compete in Sunday’s Freebird Driffield Triathlon, is raising money to help poorly children.

Mia competed in Driffield’s junior races last year, and in 2014, but decided to try the harder adult event this year, a 400 metre swim, 19k cycle and a 5k run.
Mia is busy raising money for the Bubble Foundation UK, which supports the Children’s Bone Marrow Transplant Unit at the Great North Children’s Hospital, treating youngsters with immune system disorders who require lifesaving treatment.
She chose the charity because the son of some family friends was a ‘bubble baby’.
Last year, Mia took part in her first open water swim against adults and came second.
She will be competing in the Great North Swim at Lake Windermere in June. If you’d like to help her in her fundraising quest please visit: https://www.justgiving.com/Miasyrett
